I’m struggling today to put these thoughts to the keyboard. Usually, this time of year, we celebrate all of the blessings God has given us, and He truly has given us so much…
I look at my house, our cars (that despite all odds, still sometimes run), the furnishings inside, and the family that often fills its rooms…if that was all I had, I could still say, “I’m blessed.”
But the fact is not lost upon me that I’ve been given so much more. If the possessions, even if family was taken away, God would still remain good. See, I think we sometimes describe God’s character by what we see around us, but God doesn’t change with our circumstances.
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
James 1:17
God is good all the time, in blessings and in sorrows.
Each year, we spend Thursday of this week giving thanks. It’s a tradition I love, but may I challenge you to focus on thanksgiving throughout the year. Paul said it like this:
I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
Philippians 4:12
May we too learn to focus on God’s provision in all circumstances.
