I reflect this morning on so many lives lost too soon. Lives lost in sacrifice to their country. Lives lost for freedom. Some things can’t be captured with words. Some sacrifices are too selfless. Before you slide out the grill, play a game of cornhole in the yard, or even before you indulge in family, take a moment. Take a moment to consider your life without their sacrifices. How different would it be?

We’re so privileged to live as we do. Thank you to those men and women serving. Thank you to those families gathering without loved ones. We recognize that our lives would be drastically different without your sacrifices. To the generations of brave Americans, you have made us free. Such sacrifices are brandmarked into the fabric of our nation’s existence, and we cannot fathom our lives without your acts of courage.

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
