“You thought that I was just like you.”
Psalm 50:21b
We so often forget God’s status. He is not like us.
Can you fathom who He is? King. Creator. Unchanging. Holy. Sinless. All-powerful. Compassionate. Merciful. Just…
When we think about who God is, it changes how we see the story written in the Bible. God reigned for an eternity over heaven and earth. He decided to create you, knowing you would fail Him. But He created you anyhow. Your failures removed you from Him. But He loved you anyhow.
After reigning for an eternity in perfect union with His Son, the Father sent Him on a rescue mission. The Son experienced life on earth. He lived with sorrows and hardships, yet the Son did no wrong. When the time came, He stood before man and offered himself. A free gift offered to the men choosing to leave His side. A gift given, so that they might return to Him.
It’s an odd story, one, which can only be explained through immense love.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
Rest in those words. On the cross he proclaimed, “It is finished.” Sin has been defeated. We were rescued and offered an undeserved love. The Bible says one day every knee will bow before Him. In that moment, I suspect our eyes will witness what type of love God has displayed toward us. He is not like man. How humbling is that thought!
Wonderful post! John 3:16 is my favorite verse (along with a few others :)). Blessings to you and your writing!
Thank you, Janetta! I appreciate your thoughts. It certainly struck a chord with me.
